FILTER INSTALLATION LEAK TEST

1. Procedure for Filter Installation Leak Test – Aerosol Photometer Test Method

Purpose

To ensure and confirm that the filter system is properly installed by verifying the absence of bypass leakage in the installation, and that the filters are free of defects and pinhole leaks.

Procedure

  1. Verify completion of HVAC system testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) work prior to performing these tests
  2. The filter face velocities or airflow volume are determined to ensure that they are within the general design range, specified limits, URS.
  3. The aerosol is prepared, with Emery 3004 as the Challenge Aerosol Agent.
  4. The photometer is set up with 2 connections; one tube is connected to the upstream access port of the filter system to the upstream inlet port of the photometer. The other tube is connected to the downstream inlet port of the photometer to the scanning probe. The relevant scanning probe size is selected to achieve isokinetic sampling.
  5. Challenge aerosol is generated and introduced at upstream of the filter. Using the Photometer, the concentration is adjusted to between 10 to 60 µg/l. This value is then recorded.
  6. The baseline reference for the photometer is then set.
  7. The photometer is set to scan for downstream concentration. The probe shall be held approximately 25 mm from the area to be tested during scanning. The acceptable percentage penetration is set to 0.01% of the upstream concentration.
  8. All confirmed or suspected leaks are identified and recorded. Re-test is conducted after remedial action had been taken.
  9. Where the filter are beyond repair and replacement are made, a record is to be made to reflect the replacement.

Acceptance Criteria

  1. The percentage of penetration shall not exceed 0.01% of the upstream concentration, or as specified in the contract documents or as agreed to between the Owner / Buyer and Q&E International Co., Ltd.

2. Procedure for Filter Installation Leak Test – Total Aerosol Penetration Test Method (Overall Leak Test)

Purpose

To verify filter and installation integrity when downstream access to the filter and installation is not accessible.

Aerosol Challenge Agent, Emery 3004 (Polyalphaolefin, PAO)

Procedure

  1. Verify completion of HVAC system testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) work prior to performing these tests.
  2. The aerosol is prepared, with Emery 3004 as the Challenge Aerosol Agent.
  3. Challenge aerosol is generated and introduced at upstream of the filter. Using the Photometer, the concentration is adjusted to between 10 to 60 µg/l. This value is then recorded.
  4. Measurement of downstream should be taken at several equally spaced locations in a plane, between 30 cm and 100 cm or at least 10 duct diameters downstream of the filter, within the duct and at a distance of approximately 3 cm from the duct wall.
  5. All confirmed or suspected leaks are identified and recorded.
